What do Kent Council changes mean for businesses?

Kent Council is set to undergo one of the biggest local government changes in decades from April 2028.

These Kent Council Changes will reshape how local services, investment and economic development are delivered across the county.

What is changing?

The four new authorities delivering local government services will be:

• North Kent: Dartford, Gravesham and Medway
• West Kent: Sevenoaks, Tonbridge & Malling, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells
• Mid Kent: Swale, Ashford and Folkestone & Hythe
• East Kent: Canterbury, Dover and Thanet

The aim is to simplify local government, helping to create clearer decision-making, stronger economic strategies and a more coordinated approach to growth across Kent.

Will this affect my business?

There won’t be any immediate changes for most businesses. However, the new authorities will help shape decisions around planning, infrastructure, investment, business support and economic development across Kent.
