After graduating from the University of Kent in 2004 with first class degree in Business Administration Tom joined Burgess Hodgson as a trainee chartered accountant. Tom qualified as Chartered Accountant in 2007 and subsequently qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor. Tom became a partner in Burgess Hodgson in 2016.

Whilst still maintaining a portfolio of accounting and audit clients the majority of Tom's time is spent providing strategic taxation advice to clients throughout the business life cycle. Tom looks to provide practical and commercial tax advice on what can be very complex matters that is communicated in a way that clients understand.

Specific areas of expertise include;

  • Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme and Enterprise Investment Scheme planning
  • Transactional tax support including providing taxation support for exits exceeding £150m in value
  • Employee share schemes including Enterprise Management Incentive schemes and growth share schemes
  • Corporate restructuring, reorganisations and demergers
  • Creative industry tax relief including Video Game Tax Relief and Theatre Tax Relief
  • Research and Development Tax Relief and Patent Box
  • VAT planning for property and land transactions
  • Strategic tax planning for High Net Worth individuals

Outside of my business life Tom lives in Canterbury with his partner and two young children. Tom tries to run regularly and play football when possible.
